Miss Windria Pratiwi during her class.

1.1 Planning for teaching.

During my observation days in SD Muhammadiyah Pakem, I only observed two English teacher during their teaching time. I observed these procedures.

1. Aims and objectives- Since the lesson plan was written in Bahasa I couldn’t identify the objectives, but she presented the objectives in the class by saying that “we are going to identify, distinguished or learn the following concept for today”.

2. Student learning- She knew the different characteristic of some learners but sometimes she was not able to cater the learners especially when they are being too noisy and not anymore interested in discussion.

3. Context- Her subject fits into the course, it was all about developing the four communication skills the reading, writing, listening and speaking, but she didn’t taught it in one setting, sometimes she focused too much on writing activities rather than employing activities on speaking or reading.

4. Organization- She presented those four communication skills and explained each of those one at time in different setting for example she was focused on writing in Monday and in Tuesday another macro skills was being presented, she also gave more examples before she proceeded to the next communication skills.

5. Assessment- though there are some activities in the book, she somehow managed to provide some activities like they had a dialogue activity and a simple conversation inside the classroom, but most of the time she gave activities to the learners by using the workbook.

6. Resources- she presented the resources like books or internet sources.

7. Evaluation- she asked the students whether they understood her or not, this question I think is a better question for her to evaluate her way of teaching. If there is a need to implement new teaching style or to improve them.

1.2 Preparing lessons and materials

My cooperating teacher had an itinerary to figure out the specific plan for the preparation of the topic in different classrooms, and as well as the instructional materials she knew the

1. flow of the class or what was the learner’s need

2. She got the students ready to learn

3. Present new material like (puppet, flash cards, play money, or realia)

4. Let students engage material

5. Used a book and various media and technology for teaching

6. Used a book and various media and technology for teaching.

1.3 Teaching in class

1. She can control the class and she implemented rules inside the classroom for the students to be focused and engaged in the topic, but sometimes she was not able to handle the learners when they are being too noisy and showing signs of “not listening yet not interested”.

2. She had different teaching style in different classroom.

3.She implemented the learner centered approach by letting the students work and perform the topics that had been presented, for example by letting the students have a dialogue in front of the class, or the students are being asked a questions and they are going to answer back by using the target language.

1.4 Measurement and Evaluation

1. My cooperating teacher conducted a formative and summative assessment as a way of measuring and evaluating the cognitive skill of the students and as well as to determine the level of understanding in particular topics.

1.5 Others

My cooperating teacher implemented and employed values integration inside the classroom by making the students understand and learn how to be honest, respect societal norms and act in ways consistent

With the values, beliefs, and moral principles they claim to hold and believed from their religious practices.
