6. Summary and suggestion

1.1 Purpose of practicum- the purpose of my International practice teaching is to provide me with an
opportunity to apply my pedagogical knowledge and skills in my practice, to be able to share what I have learned in my four years of studying, to enable to design, carry out and evaluate my teaching method of my own sector or class and to cooperate with other parties and understand a whole different culture and kind of students I taught. One of the purpose, was for me to understand my role in the larger whole level of the professional competence and in extended operational environment of the school. To learn how to develop and advance my competence in teaching the students.
1.2 Procedures of the practicum- Fortunately, I get to participate to the SEAMEO’s Program as one of the batch 6 students, below are the procedures in my international practice:
1. Meeting with the dean and VP Academics- Our departmental dean and VP Academics held a meeting to discuss the international practice teaching and encouraged us the students to participate for this one of a lifetime opportunity.
2. Finalization of the students list- After the parents’ consent we were able to list our names to join the international practice teaching
3. Passing of requirements- Both the SEAMEO organization and as well as our university had requirements, so we are required to give grades, passport, filling up of a bio data sheets and to undergo of an online interview which will determine whether we can participate to this program or not. SEAMEO conducted a group video call for teaching us on how to make a blog and self report as one of the major requirements.
4. Assigning of host Universities- I was assigned to SD Muhammadiyah Pakem, Yogyakarta Indonesia as one of their practice teachers.
5. Practice teaching- These are the actual days of my practice teaching after my Host University in-charge assigned me to a private elementary school SD Muhammadiyah Pakem to teach English.
1.3 Outcomes of Practicum
My International Practice teaching under the SEAMEO and SEATeacher Program was carried out
Successfully. I learned a lot in my stay in Yogyakarta as a Pre-Service Exchange Student Teacher.
I was richly taught on their culture and learned a lot from the teaching pedagogies though there are some challenges along the way, I did my very best to overcome such shortcomings and handle situatins during my practice teaching.
1.4 The challenges of practicum
There were some challenges during my practicum. First of all the language barrier which was a major task for me because I had to translate my English into Bahasa since my students are still in elementary, but later on I was able to employ some strategies for me to deal and taught my class easily. Second is the pedagogies I used because I have to make sure that this diverse learners had to learn something from the strategies that I employed inside the classroom, In my first day of teaching I was struggling with my instructional materials because of the technological problem so I let them watch the screen of my laptop so they can view my examples yet I let them open their books so they can follow my topic.
1.5 Overall Impression
My Overall Impression in the International Practice teaching under the SEAMEO Organization is that it is going to be fruitful since they provide the best opportunity for the student like me to experience on teaching a different race and in different country. My impression towards this program is that they provide us the best experience thus this Organization also provides us the opportunity to visit our neighboring country as fellow Asian.
My impression to the assigned school that I was assigned is that they are nice people and hospitable yet they can guide me as to what I am going to teach and to where or what class I am going to handle also to provide me some things that is needed inside the classroom like projectors, speaker and other materials which is needed for my teaching.
1.6 Suggestions for future improvement
I hope next time, they will interview the students more early so that they will have an ample time to procure those requirements and as well as to book airplane ticket at the lowest price.
In addition, I suggests that the school where I was assigned will provide more technological materials like speakers or projectors so everyone from the group specifically the exchange students can utilize this without time conflict, and they will going to give the exchange students for at least three days of observation in the teachers and in the campus so he/she will going to identify what are the needs, in this connection he/she will have time to think of the possible solutions or step to be able to share his/her topic more prepare.
